Travis Kelce loses seven team-mates as Kansas City Chiefs clear the decks The Kansas City Chiefs have released seven players since their Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and also face an uncertain future regarding tight end Travis Kelce

Despite securing two of the last three NFL titles, the Kansas City Chiefs appear set for a rebuild this offseason following their 40-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
The team is expected to lose several players – seven have already been released since the Super Bowl – and there’s also speculation around the potential retirement of star tight end Travis Kelce. The seven players let go didn’t significantly contribute to the team’s impressive 15-2 regular season in 2025 or their postseason performance. These include running back Keontay Ingram, wide receiver Montrell Washington, tight end Anthony Firsker, linebackers Swayze Bozeman and Cole Christiansen, and cornerbacks Nic Jones and Steven Nelson.Nelson is the most notable name among them. Originally drafted by the franchise in the third round in 2015, he spent four seasons with Kansas City before stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Eagles, and Houston Texans.
He came out of retirement to rejoin the Chiefs in early December but didn’t play a single snap with the team in 2024, even as they grappled with injuries in the secondary. His status for the 2025 season remains unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, if Kelce were to retire, it would leave a significant gap in the Kansas City offense, with Patrick Mahomes losing a player who made 97 catches in the regular season, amassing 823 receiving yards and scoring three times.
