A plaque in honour of the Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has been unveiled by her mother.

Harding, who grew up in Hazel Grove, Stockport, died of breast cancer in 2021, aged 39.

She had campaigned to raise awareness of the disease and a study into breast cancer has been named in her honour.
The plaque, next to a mural of the singer, will be part of the Stockport Music Story walking tour.

One of the organisers of the tour, John Barratt, said he wanted to “celebrate Sarah’s life”.
The unveiling was celebrated with a pink-themed party in support of breast cancer awareness month.

Marie Harding said: “I can’t believe that all of this is in honour of my daughter.
“She meant the world to me and it’s been a great loss in my life.
“But, to have this, the mural and the plaque, is a wonderful tribute to her and I’m so proud of it.”
Proceedings from the event will be donated to The Christie Charity and the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal.
Mr Barratt said: “It’s very personal to myself and my wife, Rosemary, because Rosemary found out two years ago that she had breast cancer.
“Sarah Harding’s legacy as a musician, but also the legacy of her charity, is already achieving great works and it’s been so brilliant today.”
