An affidavit was included in the criminal complaint against the seven men, who were referred to as the South American Theft Group (SATG). In that affidavit, the FBI outlines how the men allegedly broke into the homes of at least six pro athletes. Kelce and Mahomes are not specifically mentioned in the affidavit. But it refers to burglaries that took place in October in the Kansas City area on the dates in
“Throughout this investigation, I identified that this Chilean SATG has a clear and consistent modus operandi,“ the affidavit reads. “The Chilean SATG is known to target high-profile professional athletes while they are known to be away from home. In many circumstances, professional sports teams will publicize their schedules and locations of their games, making it easy for the SATG to know when a particular athlete on a particular
professional sports team will be away from his residence. “Also, this SATG will approach the residences from cover such as, but not limited to, a wooded or dark area. The SATG will then break into the residence by breaking a window or using a crowbar to open a sliding door. The SATG enters the residence and steals jewelry, expensive
watches, United States currency and expensive merchandise.”

Mahomes’ Loch Lloyd house and Kelce’s home in Leawood have wooded areas adjacent to or near their residences. The FBI noted that more than $5,000 worth of property was stolen from the homes of Kelce and Mahomes. Leawood police previously said $20,000 in cash was taken from Kelce’s house. A watch reportedly belonging to Kelce was later found in Rhode Island.
A third home in the Kansas City area also was burglarized, the FBI said, and the alleged burglars made off with “items such as jewelry, watches, cash, and other luxury merchandise
The FBI affidavit also outlines the burglary at the residence of a Bengals player on Dec. 9. That is when quarterback Joe Burrow’s home was broken into while the Bengals played a road game against the Cowboys. Security members outside the residence had a shift change at 6 p.m. and that included walking around the perimeter of the home, the FBI said. There was no sign of a break-in at that time.
The security members stayed in the driveway in front of the house and the FBI believes “burglars entered the rear of the property from a wooded area where no security cameras were located.”
