A former youth pastor was charged with additional counts of sex crimes by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office in addition to similar charges from other counties across the state.
The sheriff’s office said the Special Victims unit concluded an investigation that began in May of 2023. As a result of the investigation, 36-year-old Daniel Kellan Mayfield of Boiling Springs was charged with 38 counts of voyeurism for 24 victims on Oct. 29, 2024.
Mayfield is a former youth pastor who as of July 2023 was already facing 106 charges for alleged sex crimes in multiple counties including Greenville and Greenwood Counties.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said Greenville Co. deputies examined electronic devices that were seized from Mayfield and identified locations in Spartanburg County where Mayfield committed acts of voyeurism.
According to deputies, a majority of incidents occurred at wedding venues where Mayfield was the contracted photographer or videographer.
Mayfield was transported from Greenville County to the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Tuesday where he was formally booked after the new arrest warrants were served on him.
He is scheduled to have a bond hearing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials said once that hearing is over, Mayfield will be taken back to the Greenville County Detention Center where he will have another bond hearing on Thursday, since he has pending charges for the same offense from Beaufort County and Mt. Pleasant.
The SC Attorney General’s Office will be handling his prosecution as he has been charged in multiple jurisdictions.
